Bulbs and lamps guide – Philips Hue

Once you have your basic setup of Philips Hue smart lighting at your home, there’s a vast assortment of additions in terms of bulbs and light strips you can add to this setup. In this article we provide an overview of what bulbs you can install and what other light producing products the Philips Hue product line offers.

White bulb

The Philips Hue White E26 bulb is the most basic bulb you can get in the Philips Hue product line. This bulb is dimmable but only has one shade of white light. Not only does it last 25000 hours, it also survives 50000 switch cycles. It also is the cheapest bulb in the product range of Philips Hue.

White ambient bulb

The Hue white ambiance A19 bulb adds to the 2 bulbs you got in the starter kit for white ambience. The bulb produces functional white lights in 50000 shades of white. As most of the other bulbs it has a lifetime of 25000 hours. Its beam angle ranges is -160 ±20 degrees. It can be dimmed down with Hue compatible devices to 1% of its maximum lumen.

White and Color ambience bulbs

The Philips Hue White and color Ambience bulbs assortment comes in four different types

Philips Hue white and color ambiance A19 bulb, the Philips Hue white and color ambiance BR30 Bulb, the Philips Hue white and color ambiance GU10 bulb and the Philips Hue white and color ambiance PAR16. Where the first two are typical bulbs the letter to are spots. Basically all of them produce the same range of different shades of white, as well as 16 million different colors. There is no difference in lifetime, as they all last 25,000 hours. For the two bulbs the BR30 bulb produces a slightly wider range of beam angles. Being spots the latter two both of course have a fixed beam angle of -38 degrees.

Light Strip Plus

If you have your basic Philips Hue setup installs and might want to go a little fancier, to light strips might just be the thing for you. Not only does it have the whole white and color ambience capabilities that the bulbs have, it is also way more flexible in installing. The light strip is extendible up to 33 feet with additional 40 inch bridges, it can be bent around any corner and even be cut by scissors at certain points. Its strong light output of up to 1600 Lumen makes for perfect environment lighting. The system is based on LEDs, that last up to 20000 hours. Please be aware, that there’s also a standard version of the light strip, that has no ambient functionality.

Bloom and Iris

The Philips Hue assortment is enriched by these two lamps, the bloom and the iris. Where the iris is a typical desk lamp for your working desk, the Philips Bloom provides indirect lighting for your home. Both of them cover the full range of 16 million colors, whereas they don’t have the possibility of creating ambience. Before actually buying one of those two, check the individual size of those lamps to make sure it fits your home well.

You are traveling a lot or love to be outside? Then the Philips Hue Go is a must-have for you.  This lamp can be taken anywhere and the color and intensity be adjusted at the lamp itself or more commonly with the standard apps you use with your Philips Hue. You can create dynamic effects or have the lamp emit static light in a color of your choosing. It provides up to three hours of light with a charging time of 1.5 hours. Also it is dimmable to only 0.04% of its maximum light.
