Starter Kit – Philips Hue product range

Philips offers a great range of products in its Hue product line. If you are just getting started with smart lighting based on this system, it might not be that easy to know where to start of, what possibilities you have and which products to add at a later point of time.  In this first of three articles we will provide you with an overview on the starter kits available from Phillips. Two further articles will cover the light bulbs available and also the accessories which you can add on at later point in time. But let’s get you started on this!

Starter kits

The three types of starter kits you can order from Phillips are: Philips Hue White E26 starter kit, The Philips Hue White Ambiance starter kit A19 and the Philips Hue White and Color E26 starter kit. All of them include the basics that you need to start with your Philips Hue experience although with different features and thus also pricing. At least a bridge, which connects to your home’s router and controls the bulbs, and two bulbs are always included in each of the different starter kits. If you want to go crazy with smart lighting, no worries: a bridge can handle up to 50 bulbs and up to 12 Philips Hue accessories.

Philips Hue White E26 starter kit

This is the most basic and cheapest of the three starter kits. It comes with the standard bridge and two light bulbs that will only produce one shade of white light. Nevertheless you have the basic setup to start your own smart lighting at home including app control of your light, switching on and off based on geo fencing and all the other features that are available with the Philips Hue line. As with the other starter kits, this kit is Apple homekit compatible and you can also have Siri steer your light. The kit contains two Philips Hue white light bulbs, a standard bridge, Ethernet cable and a power adapter.

Philips Hue White Ambiance starter kit A19

This starter kit is structured essentially the same as the Philips Hue White E26 kit, only that it contains the Philips Hue dimmer switch on top. In addition the two light bulbs contained in this package have a full range of over 50000 shades of white making them perfect for ambient lighting in white shades, be it warm or cold color temperatures. Thus, you can already set your lighting according to your mood, have your Philips Hue wake you up as with natural sunrise and find the perfect white tone for reading your favorite book. A heads-up: the dimmer switch is powered by a battery that is included in this package which has a minimum lifetime of at least 3 years.

Philips Hue White and color E26 starter kit

If you want to go more colorful at home, this is the starter kit for you. Included in this color kit is not only the standard bridge but also three light bulbs that produce either white or colored lights. Not only can you use the standard functions of waking up to your Hue light system, you can also have your Philips Hue system for example adjust the color to the music that you’re playing or create your own Ambience depending on the situation you are in.

Painting with light has never been easier as the bulbs cover a range of over 16 million colors (which is actually way more than the human eye can discern).

With these ambient lights you can sync your home’s background lighting with movies, sports events, you name it. Of course this kit is compatible with all the other accessories available from Phillips Hue, which we will be discussing in another article of this series.

This is the overview of the starter kits. If you want to find out more about the Philips Hue product range read the article on Hue light bulbs or Hue accessories. Of course, if you’re just getting started, a starter kit is just the thing for you. If you want to live through the full experience of smart lighting, we would recommend the Philips Hue White and color E26 starter kit color which you can order here.
