New Philips Hue products
It was announced at the IFA 2017 that Philips Lightning is going to launch new features and products for its 5th birthday. Amongst other innovations, new entertainment features will be made available, which allow synchronization between Philips Hue and different entertainment contents. This way, movies, video games and music will become a special experience for the user. Moreover, Philips Lightning will launch new starter kits, lamps and multi-packs. The compatibility of Apple HomeKit will also be enhanced in further ways.
Philips Hue Entertainment
Many of the new functions will be made available through the new software update “Philips Hue Entertainment”, which can be downloaded for free from December by anyone who owns a Philips Hue V2 Bridge and a colour-capable Philips Hue bulb. Philips Hue Entertainment is offered in close collaboration with the entertainment industry and is based on pilot projects with partners such as Syfy, The Voice, and Live Nation. The update will allow synchronizing Philips Hue with movies, video games and music.
Chris Worp, Business Group Leader Home at Philips Lightning explained at the IFA that
”Philips Hue Entertainment will be fast, synchronous and easy to set up. We want Philips Hue to be a natural ingredient of any gaming, movie or audio experience – delivering a new level of spatial immersion, complementing action on the screen. We like to think of it as surround sound for the eyes. We are committed to developing Philips Hue Entertainment along with our partners and leading brands and invite players in the entertainment industry to join us. In October, we will open up an early access program which will allow partners to use our platform capabilities and entertainment developer kit to advance further this functionality ahead of our December launch. Together we will create a new generation of immersive entertainment experiences.”
Apple HomeKit Compatibility
Another new feature is Philips Hue’s extension of Apple HomeKit compatibility: From October, Philips Hue accessories are going to be compatible with Apple HomeKit as well. This includes the Philips Hue dimmer switch and wireless motion sensor. Accordingly, it will be possible to activate Apple HomeKit through buttons or body movements and interact with Philips Hue. You can find more on the interaction of Philips Hue products with Apple Homekit here.
New Ambiance Lamps
New lamps are in prospect as well: New “Philips Hue White Ambiance Buckram” and “Philips Hue White Ambiance Buratto” spots will be added to the Philips Hue Ambiance product line in fall 2017. Besides, the new table lamp “Philips Hue White Ambiance Felicity” and “Philips Hue White Ambiance Struana”, a bathroom lamp that adapts to your daily schedule, will be launched. Each of these lamps will be delivered with a complimentary dimmer switch, which allows to choose between four different light scenarios.
Light Recipe Kit
In Europe, the Philips Hue White Ambiance Light Recipe Kit will appear in fall, which is already available in North America. It contains the Philips Hue White Ambiance E27 bulb and a wireless dimmer switch. Neither a WIFI connection or a Bridge is necessary and you are able to choose between four modes: Relax, Read, Concentrate and Energize. A Bridge can be added for further features.
Starter Kits and Multi-Packs
This fall, new Starter Kits and multi-packs will be launched. For example, the “Philips Hue White Ambiance”, “Philips Hue White and Colour Ambiance E14 candle”, “Philips Hue White Ambiance” and “Philips Hue White and Colour Ambiance E27 and B22” will be available in two-bulb multi-packs. In Europe, the new starter kits will include an additional switch, in North America an additional bulb.
Zigbee 3.0 Compatibility
Philips Hue uses the Zigbee Light Link standard. This ensures that third-party products will work just as well as the official Hue bulbs. The new standard Zigbee 3.0 will be introduced with the new products, which will be launched in the first quarter of 2018.
This wraps up all the news from the IFA 2017. We are excited for all the new developments and are looking forward to get into play mode with new products of the Philips Hue range.
